Friday Night Frights

As Halloween approaches, there are more ways to get into the season than buying pumpkin-flavored and pumpkin-scented everything. Watching spooky films is an easy way to get in the Halloween spirit. To add some terror to your Halloween festivities, check out these five horror films.

The Sixth Sense- This film is a good starter if you’re not one for scary movies. It follows the life of a young boy who has the ability to communicate with those who are dead, thus his “sixth sense.” It’s an amazing movie that will supply you with some great quoting material.

Insidious- In this modern-day film, a family deals with a series of haunting events following their move to a new house and their son’s sudden and inexplicable coma. This film will make it hard to sleep at night. Its most frightening component being the shrill voice of Tiny Tim as he sings “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” for the movie’s soundtrack.

The Ring- The Ring is a classic, well thought-out horror film that will fill you with a fear of completing simple tasks such as answering the phone. The story follows a journalist who is investigating a mysterious videotape that, when watched, gives the viewer exactly seven days to live. With eleven wins of various film awards and six additional nominations, the movie is a definite must-see.

The Orphanage- This Spanish terror film will leave you questioning the innocence of children, and more specifically, their imaginations. A young woman moves her family back to her childhood home, an old orphanage. Her son makes a new friend soon after moving, but not an ordinary friend-an invisible one. Although you have to read subtitles, this is a great watch if you want a good spook.

The Conjuring- If you’re looking for scary, The Conjuring is a good choice for you. It is based on the supposedly true story of two paranormal investigators (ghost hunters) who try helping out a family experiencing terrifying hauntings at all hours of the day. This case is one of their hardest and most dangerous yet, making it an incredibly horrifying film.

Get together with some friends, make some popcorn and settle down for one, or maybe all, or these horror movies. They will get you in the Halloween spirit by supplying a scare and possibly making you wet your pants.
