Since the creation of democracy, protest has been the cornerstone of this Great Experiment. According to Paul Goren, department chair of political science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, student protest is critical because they “let young people signal their dissatisfaction with current conditions on issues they care deeply about,” therefore allowing them to participate in politics and have a voice in society.

Why It’s Important to Learn Media Literacy in High School

Since 2016, the term “fake news” has become increasingly popular. Originally, the term was used to describe certain websites that spread false news stories starting around the time of the presidential election. Nowadays, it has become a bit if a meme, but fake news is still a serious problem. And it’s not just untrue news stories that people should be worried about; media bias can be just as harmful because, on the surface, the news sources look perfectly reliable. Media literacy, or the ability to read and analyze media messages, has become increasingly important amidst these problems.

The Student Equity Panel at MHS

The heavily requested Equity Panel held its second panel the last week of January. The equity panel is made up of a group of leaders of various minority clubs, school administrators, and faculty. This panel aims to promote inclusivity and equality in the school through discussion. Some of the attendees include leaders of GSA, JSU, MSA, and Women and Men of Color.

Fall of the Cupids: Administration’s Decision to Remove Popular Tradition

A big change has come to Minnetonka this year. After years of conflict, administration cancelled Cupids. For those that are new to Minnetonka, Cupids were groups of seniors boys in ridiculous costumes who, for a fee, would serenade a student’s friends during Heart Week. The goal of these performances was to raise money for the Family Friends Foundation.
