Heart week, Minnetonka’s six day span of caring, fun and loving events ranging from singing cupids to the benefit dinner. In people’s minds, there are two sides to heart week, the fun (dress up days, singing telegrams, etc.) and the money raising (silent auction, benefit dinner, etc.). One of the main sources from which they receive money for Minnetonka families in need is through the benefit dinner. This event and other parts of this special time started when one of the cafeteria workers at Minnetonka lost their husband and could no longer support their children financially and our district decided to take action. Now through this dinner not just this family can be helped, all families needing financial aid can be given assistance. I interviewed six Minnetonka students, I asked them why we do heart week, in there opinion. “Show affection for others, which is pretty nice and ya know to get the love out there.” Will Bryant, one of these students, said. “Minnetonka’s booster club decided that we needed to raise more for a cause.” Kendall Ellis said. And the most common answer among all of them was “For fun of course!” After hearing there opinion I revealed to them the action reason, here are some of there reactions. “Wow, had did you find that out? I think it’s cute.” Said Allie Stuhlmueller. “I think that’s cool, good…” Ben Harrison said. “Wow I didn’t know that.” Said Rebecca Ryweck. They all seem pretty amazed by the story and thought that it was a good back story to this great week. So when thinking about this week, don’t just think about who your going to buy that love note for or that singing telegram, think about the actual reason behind it you maybe can help the cause by participating in the benefit dinner or the silent auction.
