Satisfying that Sweet Tooth: Best Desserts in MN

Chloe Hanson, Arts and Entertainment Managing Editor

With the frigid winter air still surrounding us, people tend to look for comfort foods to help warm up during this cold season. For many, this craving transfers over into desserts as well. Other than treats like ice cream and frozen yogurt, some sweets are best served warm around the West Metro to contrast this chilly MN weather.

  1. Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie | Copper Hen, Minneapolis

This dessert is my favorite of all time, allowing me to reminisce about one of my favorite places and really fitting the comfort food checklist. It is made with their signature chocolate chip skillet cookie as a base, malted vanilla ice cream on top, and drizzled in caramel.

  1. Banana Cream Pie | Hazellewood, Minnetonka

Made with homemade custard, sliced bananas, a graham cracker crust, caramel, hot fudge, and whipped cream, Hazellewood’s signature Banana Cream Pie is a loaded dessert.

“This is definitely my absolute favorite dessert of all time, specifically from Hazellewood. If you like bananas, I would for sure recommend it,” says Brooke Dewing, ‘20.

  1. Chocolate Hazelnut Panini | Punch Pizza, Eden Prairie

For this dessert, oven split focaccia is filled with organic chocolate hazelnut spread, covered in powdered sugar, and served warm.

“It’s basically a Nutella pizza; it’s really good, very shmack” Andrew Thompson, ‘20, shares.

  1. Patticake | Yum! Kitchen and Bakery, St. Louis Park and Minnetonka

A chocolate cake with buttercream frosting, Yum’s Patticake is worthy of making the trip. The Patticake is a classic dessert that is still satisfying and comforting even if hot desserts aren’t your thing.

  1. Lemon Pie | 318 Cafe, Excelsior

“It’s from my work, and it’s amazing,” gushes Natalie Erhard, ‘19. Featuring a restaurant-made graham cracker crust, creamy lemon filling, and whipped cream on top, 318’s Lemon Pie is a cold dessert, but still a cozy treat that is a fun way to embrace the cold in the winter.

Whether you’re a fan of sweets or not, these delicious desserts are a good addition to this cold season. I’d highly recommend going out and trying these tasty treats to satisfy your sweet tooth while staying nice and warm.
