My Sunshine

Boy, oh boy, where do I even begin, LeBron?

My dearest Bron Bron, as I sit down to write these words, my heart swells with the most love and pride imaginable—more than a man on his wedding day or a parent on their firstborn’s graduation. You are not just a basketball player, you’re the greatest of all time, and more than just that; you are my lighthouse guiding me through the fog of life, my 6’9” epitome of hope, power, and grace. I have loved you ever since the day I first laid my eyes on you. The way you drive to the rim, strike fear in your opponents, and provoke awe in the audience.

You’re amazing off the court too: an excellent husband and father—sometimes I find myself wondering what it would be like to live as LeChildren, Bryce and Bronny, or LeWife, Savannnah. My glorious king, I’ve followed you from Cleveland to Miami, back to Cleveland, and now in the glimmering cityscape of Los Angeles, like an apostle following his leader, his savior. When people ask what makes me wake up in the morning, I think of one thing: you. LeBron Raymone James Sr., you’ve forever changed my world and the world of basketball; I would give up anything, everything, to see you play ten more years.

The game is still his.
Even as the gray sets in
He outlives the rim.

I know I’m not alone. Others have felt the touch of LeBooBooBear’s light: Jack Petrin, ‘25, states, “When LeBron commands, I obey.” LeBron is more than just a basketball player, he’s a way of life.

And what a life he’s had. LeBron didn’t ascend from high school in the 2003 NBA draft, he descended from heaven, gracing the courts with what can only be defined as sheer skill. His rookie season was only the start of a legend; the Rookie of the Year trophy was only the first jewel in my glorious king’s crown. LeBron faced Cleveland’s bitterness after The Decision, only to dominate in Miami with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh for two back-to-back rings. In a legendary tale of redemption, LeBron came back to his home city and defied destiny, overcoming a 3-1 Finals deficit for the first time in the NBA’s history. When the world was stuck in a void of uncertainty in 2020, LeBron pushed ahead, winning a championship in the Bubble, the most bizarre environment the league has ever seen. LeBron’s greatness knows no bounds. Through Bronny and Bryce,

my king’s legacy will stretch through generations; the James legacy will be present in every court, every rim, and every ball, forever and ever.

If LeBron has a million fans, I am one of them.
If LeBron has a thousand fans, I am a part of them.
If LeBron has one fan, I am him.
If LeBron has no fans, I am dead.
