Sanctuary at the U of M, Twin Cities

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, a sanctuary is “a place of refuge or protection,” and this is exactly how the term is being used now in politics and media. A sanctuary city is a city that welcomes illegal immigrants and refugees. If a city has adopted this policy, their police force will be instructed to disregard federal regulations regarding the deportation of their undocumented populace.

Spring is drawing nearer, and with the change in seasons comes the beginning of spring sports at Minnetonka High School. Captain’s practices for several sports have started already. Minnetonka spring sports took home two state titles last year, and both teams - boy’s tennis and boy’s golf - have every intention of repeating their accomplishment.

While walking through the commons or the hallways, you have undoubtedly seen Mr. Erickson numerous times throughout your high school years. Although Mr. Erickson is well-known professionally, when it comes to the personal level, MHS students are less educated about their principal.

Drinking fountains, once a rarity, are now commonplace throughout the world. Their popularity has turned them into a necessity, both on a health and comfort level. In fact, the International Plumbing Code requires schools to provide one drinking fountain for every 100 people. Of course, that means that Minnetonka High School has quite a few drinking fountains, and some are bound to be better than others. In this uber scientific study, the drinking fountains throughout the school have been ranked on a scale from zero to ten, zero meaning it doesn’t work and ten indicating the water is fit for the Queen of England.

Registration season is finally over, but for those MHS students who signed up for courses that you must apply to, there are still some options yet to be decided. Those who registered for International Studies probably noticed something new this year: Greece International Studies. Since the application for International Studies has not been sent out yet, now is the time to explore this new section of one of the best programs offered here at Minnetonka.
