Many people often associate libraries with old books and cranky librarians, but the modern library has much more to offer. The Chanhassen Library offers a variety of activities and opportunities to bring communities together, find new interests, and read one of the many books on the shelves. Libraries can be especially important to students because they provide a place other than school or home for them to get homework done, or hang out with friends (at a reasonable volume of course). The Chanhassen Library has many amenities such as numerous places to curl up with a book, scavenger hunts for when you need a brain break, puzzles, and of course lots of books. There are also a bunch of helpful pamphlets located around the library to help you develop various life skills such as preparing to enter the workforce, choosing colleges, and managing your finances.
Finals season, and school in general, can be tough, but the libraries have ample resources to support students in their studying. The Chanhassen and Chaska libraries have several spaces dedicated to students available from 3-8pm during finals week (with snacks provided) and all the locations have access to databases as well as Help Now, a free homework help resource that is available with a library card.
Ingrid Rimmereide, a librarian at the Chanhassen Library, says that her favorite part of the library is that “it’s a fun and awesome place to be, and there are a ton of things to do.” She also notes that the library has a huge database; even bigger than our school’s! And if you can’t make it to the library, you can always download the Libby app and sign in through your library to keep reading this summer.
The Chanhassen Library is a part of the Carver County Library system which includes locations in Chanhassen, Chaska, Victoria, Waconia, Watertown, and Norwood Young America. In the Carver County Library system, there are many events taking place to entertain and educate people of all ages, but we picked out a few activities that we thought looked fun:
Planting a Seed: This is a great opportunity for anyone with a green thumb, or anyone interested in growing a plant! All Carver County Libraries will be offering seed packets from March 4th through the growing season. (Registration for this activity is required, and you can sign up at carverlib.org under the ‘Calendar’ section).
Teen Stress Busters: At the Chaska Library on May 29 and 30, from 3-5pm, you can take a break from finals week stress and relax
with the teen stress busters. DIY Succulent Planters: Available at the Chaska Library on May 28, from 4-5pm, you can unleash your inner artist and gardener and create little planters for succulents. This is perfect for anyone who loves crafting or just wants a fun activity to do to take a mental break this finals season. (Registration for this activity is required, and you can sign up at
carverlib.org under the ‘Calendar’ section).
